Big Picture
I am a Philadelphia-based human who works as a graphic designer. My pronouns are she/her.
Professional
I currently have a full-time job doing graphic and visual design for a digital agency in the pharma space, but I also like to use my design skills for “fun stuff” like personal projects, and sometimes I take freelance projects that I feel will further my career goals in some way.
When I do freelance work, I operate under my small business umbrella, Rara Avis Design LLC, and RAD Promo.
The type of work Rara Avis Design takes on are primarily: print media & book design, custom product development (physical goods), and merch campaigns.
Personal
I have always been a very active, creative person. I also believe in using my skills and energy to make the world a better place.
In 2015 I worked at a housing-first organization managing volunteer programs and donations for an emergency shelter and 10 permanent supportive housing sites. I wrote an editorial about donating to shelters for Generocity.org and it is still one of their most frequented blog posts year after year.
I write, and have had several short stories (and poems) published in literary journals. I was most active in that part of my creative life from 2015-2019.
Rugsweeping, and Other Lost Arts - Short Story in Painted Bride Quarterly
Same, But Different - Flash Fiction in Thirty West Publishing’s online journal
The Vault - Short Story in “She’s Lost Control” anthology, 2019.
A horror genre reviewer shouted out my story here: Book Review: She's Lost Control
Selected Poems - Summertide Magazine, Volume 1, Summer 2017.
Late 2019 I started writing a zine about career direction, frustration, and freelancing. The first issue was published and released at the first ever Philly Freelance Festival, at the end of January 2020… The 2nd issue was never finished due to pandemic stress and an existential re-evaluation of everything I knew in the world.
I love being outdoors, and have a bit of a thrill-seeking habit. I ride a motorcycle, drive a car with a manual transmission, and in the summertime I never miss a chance to put my paddleboard in the water.
My dog is by my side always.
